If you are looking to buy an iPad 3G then you will need to find a provider and iPad 3G contracts that are suitable for you. As the iPad 3G versions are sold unlocked to networks, this means that all you need to get is an iPad Micro SIM card. As the SIM cards are specially manufactured cards solely for the iPad, you won’t be able to use a SIM card from your mobile phone and neither will you be able to use the one from your iPhone so it means purchasing one. This can be done from one of the iPad contracts from the four network providers that supply them which is Orange, Vodafone, 3 and O2 in the UK. The iPad Micro SIM cards are free with a contract and the plans can be as long and flexible as you want.

Orange have two rolling 30-day contract tariffs, one daily rate tariff, one weekly rate plus they offer a pay as go option.
iPad plan: This is the pay as you go plan from Orange which is advertised as a pay for what you use plan. They charge 5p per MB which is great for if you want to jump on the internet and check something but in case you find yourself checking too often then the plan is capped at £40 for safety!
iPad Daily: with this part of the Orange 3G contracts you get 200MB valid for one day, the limit being until midnight that day. It costs £2.00 but unlike some other tariffs access to Wi-Fi hotspots isn’t included.
iPad Weekly: Similar to iPad daily, but this time you get seven days access with a 1GB limit for £7.50 – around £1 per day effectively.
iPad Monthly 15: This is a 30-day rolling tariff that costs £15 per month and has a 3GB limit. There is unlimited access to BT Openzone Wi-Fi available at over 75,000 locations in the UK on this plan.
iPad Monthly 25: This plan is for the hardcore iPad 3G users as you get a 10GB limit and unlimited Wi-Fi but at a cost of £25 per month.
£2 per day: With this tariff you get 200MB plus unlimited Wifi for 24 hours. Similar to the Orange rate but you get more 3G data and Wi-Fi access as well.
£10 over 30 days: For £10 a month you get 1GB plus unlimited Wifi and if you reach your limit you can top-up in increments of 500MB.
£15 over 30 days: Again unlimited access to The Cloud’s Wi-Fi hotspots, you get 2GB over 30 days.
As before, Vodafone has three rolling Ipad 3G contract options, but there is no access to Wifi on these and there is no daily rate option.
1GB per month: For £10 a month you can get 1GB over 30 days and there is no need to be tied into a contract. No Wifi included.
3GB per month: This plan costs £15 a month and again there is no contract.
5GB per month: this is the same as the above offers with no contract but you get 5GB a month for £25.
There are 2 options on the 3 iPad 3G contracts which is a pay monthly or pay as you go with neither having any Wi-Fi options.
Micro-SIM Only – 1 month rolling contract: for £7.50 a month this plan gives you 1GB for a one month rolling contract.
Micro-SIM Only – 1 month rolling contract: You get 10Gb a month for £15 per month again for a rolling contract.
Pay As You Go + 1: For £10 you can get 1GB worth of data over 30 days.
Pay As You Go + 3: Get 3GB of 3G for £20 a month over 3 months.
